Second hand, First choice? Part 1

Recession Smeshession. Well maybe not literally, but while It’s quite clear that the past couple of years have been a struggle for the luxury goods market, the ‘high-rollers’ still seem to be rocking their designer foulards and purses…but how?

Now I’m thinking - the best business plan that I could come up with is something that requires me to find designer goods and re-sell them at a discounted cost to those trying to cut back on their lavish spending. I’ve clearly missed the boat on that genius idea; Consignment, Vintage, Value Village (Canada second hand retailer), they’ve all just about exploited that idea and are pocketing in the profits as I’m typing.

Whether it be their mothers closets their rummaging through to find pieces to sell in their boutique or grandmas inherited vintage Hermès scarf, they’re finding ways to re-sell these previously owned coveted pieces and are making a heck of a profit. ‘Vintage’ has become a trend, designers are continuously inspired by the older generations and the newer generations have discovered a new outlet to purchase fabulous for less.

Will this trend to stay or fade away?
